Allen County Sheriff, Sheriff Williams, is making available on the Allen County Sheriff’s web site a citizen-friendly, easy to use, Allen County offender registry, enabling citizens to search for the presence of registered offenders in proximity to their homes, place of work, schools and day cares. A registered offender is defined as anyone who is required by law to register their whereabouts with their local Sheriff’s Department. These offenders include people convicted of certain drug crimes, sex crimes, and violent crimes in accordance to the Kansas Offender Registration Act. This information is being provided to the citizens in a form they can easily use anytime day or night via the nations leading offender registration and notification solution, OffenderWatch. Citizens may enter any address of interest to them, and see a map and listing of offenders within a defined radius of that address. Then, they may register the address to be continuously monitored by the Sheriff, who will send to them an email alerting them if an offender should register an address within one mile or 2 miles of their registered address. Citizens may confidentially register as many addresses as they like, at no cost to them. The purpose of the program is to lessen the anxiety of citizens by proactively alerting them should an offender/predator move within proximity to them, and to enhance the security and safety of Allen County citizens. The program also enables the Sheriff to verify that offender addresses do not violate any safety buffers that may be implemented around protected institutions in the County, such as schools, day cares and churches.
